Einaudi was born in Turin, Piedmont. His father, Giulio Einaudi, was a publisher working with writers including Italo Calvino as well as Primo Levi, and his grandpa, Luigi Einaudi, was Leader of Italy between 1948 and 1955. His mom, Renata Aldrovandi, played the actual piano music to him growing up. Her father Waldo Aldrovandi was a pianist, opera director and composer who transfered to Australia after Globe War II.
Ludovico began composing his own music like a teenager, first writing through playing a folk acoustic guitar. He began his musical coaching at the Conservatorio Verdi within Milan, obtaining a diploma within composition in 1982. That exact same year he took a good orchestration class taught through Luciano Berio and had been awarded a scholarship towards the Tanglewood Music Festival.
